Mitsui & Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese trading company, and the Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) Livestock met on Friday, February 23rd, to discuss potential collaborations in various agricultural sectors. The meeting focused on exploring opportunities in dairy, cattle, cold chain solutions, local sugar processing, salt importation, and crop protection, among others.
Representing the DA were Undersecretary for Livestock Deogracias Victor B. Savellano, Assistant Secretary Philip G. Young, and Dr. Jonathan B. Sabiniano, Director of the National Livestock Program. Mitsui sent a delegation led by Kazu Nomura, Country Chairman and General Manager, Ly Quinones, General Manager for Food and Retail, and Marilen R. Francisco, General Manager for Chemical Division.
Discussions centered on how both parties could work together to enhance the Philippine agricultural sector. Mitsui, with its extensive global network and experience, expressed interest in supporting projects related to dairy development, cattle breeding, and establishing efficient cold chain infrastructure. The company also highlighted its leading role in sugar and salt importation and its commitment to contributing to the country’s food security.
The meeting marks a positive step towards strengthening cooperation between the Philippine government and Japanese businesses in the agricultural sector. Both parties agreed to continue discussions and explore concrete ways to collaborate on projects that will benefit Filipino farmers and consumers.
